The wind howled around the cabin, slamming against the walls with an anger that felt almost personal. Elena paced back and forth in front of the dying fire, her mismatched socks silent on the wooden floor. She’d come here to escape everything—the noise, the memories, the unfinished parts of her life that never seemed to fade. But the storm outside wasn’t the only thing shaking her world.
