Grady Hart: Reckoning in the Dust (Episode 4, Part 3)
The Texas desert stretched out in front of Grady Hart and Sam Rawlins as the sun dipped low, turning the sky a fiery red. Dust and heat swirled through the air, gritty against their skin, and the horizon stretched out behind them like a fading memory. Guthrie was already behind them, and Laredo still lay ahead, but something in the distance caught Grady’s eye—smoke curling into the sky, too far from any town to be from friendly folk.
“Campfire,” Sam muttered, squinting toward the horizon. “Ain’t nobody settlin’ this far out.”
Grady gave a short nod. “We’d best take a look.”
